“Come on Sasha, tell me about it.” Angela begged for the 5th time. I gave her the evil eye and threw a piece of popcorn at her.
“Hey, you are the one that brought it up. So now you are going to back out and go all silent treatment?”
Angela was right, I had brought it up and now I was forced to sit here and either make up a story or tell her what happened. The thing is, being a middle child, it’s difficult to get attention and I suppose I’ve always craved the attention my two older sister’s have always recieved. Dana and Laura were close enough to the same age that growing up they seemed to always get the most attention by our parents. If Dana and Laura weren’t getting the attention then my younger sister Jessica was getting all the attention. I, on the other hand, was often ignored or just simply over-looked. I always got fewer presents, hand-me-down clothes and generally less praise and attention by our relatives. Jessica did have it worse when it came to the hand-me-down clothes but being the youngest, she was smothered with attention and love.
When Dana and Laura started to reach puberty, they were knock-outs! If we went to the mall they were surrounded by boys. If we were at home, the phone would never stop ringing and my parents even gave up trying to keep the boys away from the house. Being just a few years younger, I was too young to get the attention of boys and too old to be cute like Jessica. So I often faded into the background or got on my sister’s nerves enough for them to kick me out of the room. (more…)
